Why Do You Read?
I
read because reading is my source of happiness. I read because books help me
escape my reality. If I’m ever having a bad day, I can just open a book and not
think about all the stress in my life. I read because it helps me expand my
imagination. Reading helps create my own movie inside my head. A movie, where I
imagine how every detail in the book happens. I prefer reading a book, over
watching a movie any day, because with a book I have the freedom to picture something
happening in the book, the way I want it to happen. I read because knowledge is power. Every time I
read a different book I learn something different. I expand my vocabulary with
every new book I pick up. Whether it’s a historical non-fiction book or a
fantasy novel, there’s always something new to learn within each book. I read because books are my friend. I say to
myself all the time, “Friends in real life, they come and they go, but books
stay with you forever.” Reading a book will always give me a sense of bliss, no
matter the book. When I was younger, my mom used to take me to the library once
a week. I would check out about 3-4 books and I would just sit in my room and
read them. I was never an outgoing child, but books never made me feel alone.
As a child, I read all the Magic Tree house books because I envied the kids in the
books. I wanted to time-travel and travel to different places within other books, in my own tree house. Even
though that never happened, my dream has carried on. And to this day, all I really want to do is travel
the world. I know I can't travel to places within books, but I want to gain as much knowledge as possible by going different places and learning different cultures. It may not be in a tree house but, reading those books sparked something
inside of me. Reading helped shape me as a person today. I love reading and
books will always be my own little source of happiness.

ReplyDeleteFun argument and defense of the things that reading sparks in people! I like how you connected Magic Tree House and your hunger to travel. Well written post.
